IT major Wipro has partnered with nine of the top ten healthcare payers in the US, according to a representative from the company’s leadership team told FE.
“Our early investment in AI and close collaboration with academia and research institutions in developing generation AI (GenAI) solutions have positioned us at the forefront of innovation,” the representative said.
Wipro has been developing AI solutions specifically tailored for the healthcare sector. One prominent example is the GenAI-powered contact centre transformation. In this project, Wipro collaborated with a leading healthcare payer to implement AI-based co-pilots for customer service agents. These AI co-pilots can access extensive repositories of knowledge articles, resulting in a reduction of average handling times by up to 40%. This solution not only increases agent productivity but also significantly enhances member experience while lowering operational costs, the representative said.
Additionally, in partnership with a major ‘US payvider’, Wipro has focused on improving nurse productivity for at-home care. This AI-based solution provides insights into member history and key follow-up items, automatically generates visit notes, and integrates medication details. Such automation saves caregivers an estimated 10-12 minutes per visit, the spokesperson said.
The company said its AI initiatives are not limited to a single aspect of healthcare. The company is exploring a variety of AI applications, including enhancing compliance and billing processes, optimising healthcare contact centers, and automating complex document processing.
In the quarter ended June, approximately 14% of Wipro’s total revenue came from its healthcare vertical. The Bengaluru-headquartered company reported a 1.1% quarter-on-quarter decline in consolidated revenue to ₹21,963.80 crore in the April-June period.
AI partnerships and large deals
Wipro’s healthcare division has aligned its AI initiatives with major hyperscalers, including Microsoft, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and Nvidia. Although Wipro has not disclosed specific large AI-based deals in the healthcare sector, the company informed AI’s transformative impact across various business domains. From streamlining business operations and application support to enhancing patient experiences and improving data reconciliation, AI is playing a crucial role.
“AI’s role in modern business practices is transformative, driving innovation, efficiency, and value across various domains,” remarked a Wipro leader.
Outlook for healthcare segment FY25
Wipro expects strong performance in its healthcare segment for FY25, supported by current momentum in the US healthcare sector. With the upcoming presidential election, the focus on reducing healthcare costs, improving care quality, and enhancing coordination among stakeholders is expected to intensify.
“These initiatives are aimed at streamlining processes and fostering a more integrated approach to healthcare delivery,” a Wipro spokesperson said.
