Tata Power-led Odisha Discoms have awarded contracts totalling Rs 11,481 crore to local contractors and suppliers. The joint ventures between Tata Power and the Odisha government have placed orders worth Rs 8,690 crore with local micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and Rs 2,791 crore with non-MSMEs over the past three years, since taking over the state’s power distribution operations.
These contracts, covering materials and services, have been given to 6,645 local vendors and suppliers. The discoms involved are TP Central, TP Southern, TP Northern, and TP Western Odisha Distribution Limited.
The company in a statement said that these collaborative partnerships serve as the backbone for day-to-day operations and services, with a special emphasis on encouraging local vendors to employ residents from the nearby regions.
In the services sector, which includes metre reading, billing, and network maintenance, contracts worth Rs 7,560 crore have been awarded to 4,347 vendors. In the materials supply category, which includes distribution transformers, cables, and poles, 2,298 contracts valued at Rs 3,921 crore have been assigned.
The materials contracts cover essential components such as transformers, cables, poles, and IT equipment, while the services contracts include meter installation, billing, call centre operations, and administrative tasks.
“This initiative not only aligns with the Make in Odisha vision but also plays a crucial role in driving the state’s economic progress, significantly contributing to the prosperity of local communities,” the company said in a statement.
