Disruption is an inevitable reality of life and dealing with it is all that matters to survive and thrive, said Harit Nagpal, MD & CEO, Tata Play at Goafest 2024, which began on Wednesday at the Westin Hotel in Mumbai.
Nagpal, who was a keynote speaker, highlighted the opportunity that disruption could provide in a presentation titled ‘Adapt To Thrive, Not Just Survive’.
“Disruption can be caused by anything or anyone. Either you disrupt, or someone else is going to do it for you, and the best time to do it is when you feel the most comfortable,” he said, as he provided important life lessons on business continuity at a time when the gap between disruptions was rapidly shrinking.
In his presentation, peppered with anecdotes, Nagpal, who has also authored a book on the subject of disruption, emphasised the importance of addressing both expected and unexpected scenarios when designing a business continuity plan.
The chief executive, 62, also dipped into his own four-decade-long career as a working professional across industries such as cosmetics to hair oils, colas to apparels, mobile telecommunications and direct-to-home services. At every step, Nagpal had to adapt to new roles, situations and cities.
“All of us know the disruption caused by Covid-19 four years ago,” Nagpal said. “While the pandemic disrupted traditional office setups, it also led to flexible and efficient work arrangements as well as a greater adoption of digital interactions including video and Zoom calls,” he said.
He also revealed that a significant and growing proportion of Tata Play’s customer base is now opting for digital recharge options, marking a notable shift in consumer behaviour. This trend is visible in the company’s increasing market share, as more customers embrace the convenience of virtual recharges, he added.
