Monday – September 2
- All day – The U.S. stock markets will be closed for observance of the U.S. Labor Day holiday.
- All day – The HSBC 11th Annual China Conference will take place in Shenzhen, China. Yum China (YUMC) is one of the key companies that is presenting.
Tuesday – September 3
- Volatility watch – Options trading volume is elevated on Terns Pharmaceuticals (TERN) and Canoo (GOEV). The most overbought stocks per their 14-day relative strength index include G1 Therapeutics (GTHX), Elite Pharmaceuticals (OTCQB:ELTP), and FreightCar America (RAIL). The most oversold stocks per their 14-day Relative Strength Index include Bolt Projects (BSLK), Verrica Pharma (VRCA), and Red Robin (RRGB). Short interest has moved higher on Kura Sushi (KRUS) and Crown LNG (CGBS). VIZIO (VZIO) will be watched closely during the week, with Walmart management presenting at two conferences. Shares of VIZIO traded about 2.6% below the acquisition offer from Walmart at the time of publication as the regulatory review process continue to play out.
- Earnings watch – Notable companies due to report include Zscaler (ZS), Gitlab (GTLB), and PagerDuty (PD). Options trading implies a double-digit share price swing for Sportsman’s Warehouse (SPWH) after the release of its earnings report.
- Data watch – Chinese electric vehicle makers NIO (NIO), Li Auto (LI), and XPeng (XPEV) will update on monthly deliveries. Investors will also monitor the monthly Macau gross gaming revenue report, the monthly update on Class 8 truck orders, firearm background check data from the FBI, and discount broker DARTs reports.
- All day – Intel (INTC) will host an event in Berlin to launch the next generation of Intel Core Ultra processors, code-named Lunar Lake. During the livestreamed event, the company will reveal details on the new processors’ x86 power efficiency, core performance, graphics performance and AI computing power.
- All day – Bloomberg will publish its OPEC production survey for August.
- All day – Philip Morris International (PM) will host a live webcast of a fireside chat session at the Barclays Global Consumer Staples Conference with CEO Jacek Olczak.
- All day – The three-day Commercial UAV Expo in Las Vegas will include a deep dive into the state of the drone industry.
Wednesday – September 4
- Earnings watch – Notable companies due to report include Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), Dollar Tree (DLTR), Dick’s Sporting Goods (DKS), and Casey’s General Stores (CASY). Options trading implies a double-digit share price swing for C3.AI (AI) and ChargePoint Holdings (CHPT) after their reports are released.
- All day – The Citi Global Technology, Media and Telecom Conference will include participation from Microsoft (MSFT), Super Micro Computer (SMCI), Dell Technologies (DELL), Intel (INTC), MongoDB (MDB), and Etsy (ETSY). The Citi TMT conference has led to share price moves in the past based off of management updates. Other notable conferences on the schedule include the UBS Global Materials Conference, the Morgan Stanley Industrial CEOs Unplugged, the Morgan Stanley 22nd Annual Global Healthcare Conference, and the Goldman Sachs 31st Annual Global Retail Conference. The Bloomberg Edge Summit conference will include speakers from Google Cloud and Nvidia (NVDA) on turning the potential of AI into actionable strategies.
- All day – Notable investor events include SkyWest (SKYW) appearing at Deutsche Bank Airline Day and BioMarin Pharmaceutical’s (BMRN) Investor Day.
- All day – The Federal Reserve Beige Book report will be released.
- 5:00 p.m. Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) will hold its earnings call. Traders will be listening for any details on the planned acquisition of Juniper Networks (JNPR).
Thursday – September 5
- Earnings watch – Notable companies due to report include Broadcom (AVGO), DocuSign (DOCU), Samsara (IOT), Smith & Wesson (SWBI), and NIO (NIO). Options trading implies a large share price swing for Rent the Runway (RENT) and Planet Labs (PL) after their reports are released.
- All day – The 1-for-6 LightInTheBox (LITB) reverse stock split becomes effective, as well as the 1-for-25 Draganfly (DPRO) and 1-for-20 Allbirds (BIRD) reverse stock splits.
- All day – Notable events include Jack Henry & Associates’ (JKHY) Investor Day, Talen Energy’s (TLN) Investor Day, Danaher’s (DHR) Investor & Analyst Meeting, and Shoals Technologies’ (SHLS) Investor Day.
- All day – The Gabelli Funds Aerospace & Defense Symposium will include participation from AAR Corp (AIR), Astronics (ATRO), Bridger Aerospace (BAER), Crane (CR), Curtiss Wright (CW), Redwire (RDW), and Textron (TXT).
- All day – Toyota Motor (TM) and BMW AG (OTCPK:BMWYY) are expected to make an announcement detailing an expansion of their fuel cell partnership.
- All day – Hyatt Hotels (H) and Marriott International (MAR) are scheduled to present at the Bank of America Gaming and Lodging Conference.
- All day – It is the FDA action date on Travere Therapeutics’ (TVTX) Filspari kidney diseases therapy.
- Postmarket – Costco (COST) will release its August sales report.
- 8:20 p.m. The NFL season kicks off when the Kansas City Chiefs host the Baltimore Ravens. Pro football provides a huge boost to sports betting volume. DraftKings (DKNG) and Flutter Entertainment’s (FLUT) FanDuel are looking to hold on to their market share lead, with Fanatics, ESPN Bet (PENN), and BetMGM (MGM) (OTCPK:GMVHF) becoming more competitive.
Friday – September 6
- All day – Notable events include keynote addresses from Roblox’s (RBLX) RDC 2024 Conference for developers and Community Financial System’s (CBU) Investor Day.
- 8:30 a.m. The August U.S. Jobs report will be released. Economists expect nonfarm payroll additions of 163K for the month, vs. 114K in July. The unemployment rate is expected to drop to 4.2% from 4.3%.
