What is crypto treat Fortnite? New token or super treat?

Crypto traders have been misled by Fortnite’s latest unveiling of the superpowered dog, Krypto. The search term “crypto treat fortnite” saw a recent breakout on Google trends, with people looking for a Fortnite token that does not exist.

According to Google Trends for cryptocurrency, many users have been misspelling Krypto treat Fortnite as “crypto treat Fortnite” when googling the game’s newest dog-themed power-up. Other search terms that pop up due to the spelling error include “Epic Games token” and “what does the crypto treat do in Fortnite?”

Despite the spike in curiosity from traders, the “crypto treat Fortnite” is not a new token issued by the third-person shooter survival video game developed by Epic Games. In fact, the treat holds zero monetary value and cannot be exchanged for fiat-currency or digital assets.

Spelled correctly with a K instead of a C, Krypto Treat is a new item introduced in the game’s Chapter 6 Season 3 linked to Superman’s superpowered pooch, Krypto.

The dog is a superpowered companion that can assist players in quests and combats. Krypto treats are introduced in the game as a new Mythic Hero Item that lets players summon Krypto, Superman’s cosmic canine companion. The similarities in name may have led to users mistaking it for crypto treat Fortnite instead of Krypto treat Fortnite.

The rare dog treat can be found within chests or ground loot in the game. Each stack grants players two treats that can be thrown like a grenade. Wherever it lands, Krypto will dive-bomb the spot, creating an explosion on impact.

The damage that a Krypto treat deals is equal to around 100 Area of Effect damage to both health and shields in the surrounding area. Tossing multiple treats in quick succession can decimate enemies and push through enemy cover.

Does Fortnite deal in crypto?

In the past few years, Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney has confirmed multiple times that Fortnite will not integrate cryptocurrency, NFTs, or token-trading mechanics into its gameplay. This means that the game does not currently have a crypto treat Fortnite token.

However, there was one incident back in 2019 when the popular video game made headlines when it “accidentally” accepted the cryptocurrency token Monero (XMR) at its official merch store, Retail Row. Sweeney claimed that the acceptance that fueled rumors that the game would be accepting crypto payments was a mistake.

“We worked with a partner to open a merchandise store, and somewhere along the way Monero payment was enabled,” said Sweeney in an old thread.

While Fortnite still has not adopted any web3 technology to this day, Epic Games’ marketplace had announced the launch of its first Non-Fungible Token game on Sept. 15, 2022. The game is called Mythical Games’ Blankos Block Party, which became the first web3 game to be available on the platform
